TITLE:
Chief Operations Officer – COO
COUNCIL:
Girl Scouts Heart of the South (Memphis,
Tennessee)
Serving Girls in Western Tennessee, Northern
Mississippi and nearby communities in Arkansas
GOALS:
Reporting to the Council’s Chief Executive
Officer, the COO will work to develop and
implement strategies to increase and retain
membership of girls and adult volunteers, direct the
Council’s program plan, and manage its product
sales efforts. The COO will provide on-going
support to staff and volunteers by keeping current
on all operating issues and policies to ensure they
meet governmental, GSUSA, Council, and board
requirements. Responsibilities include membership
and marketing, program services, volunteer
services. The COO collaborates with other senior
management to deliver superior quality services to
the membership.
BACKGROUND:
A minimum of 5 years’ comparable management
level experience is required, as well as
demonstrated competency across a broad range
of executive and managerial functions appropriate
to a council of similar size. We seek someone
with direct experience in budgeting, human
resources/volunteer management, program
management, membership/marketing. Experience
in the management of annual campaigns such as
product sales is desirable as is exposure to
nonprofit board relations, communications, fund
development, and planning. The successful
candidate will possess a minimum of an earned
Bachelor’s degree, with advanced degree
preferred (or equivalent experience).
STATISTICS:
16,500+ girl and 4,400+ dedicated adult
members. The Council’s jurisdiction includes 37
counties in Mississippi, 21 in Tennessee and 1 in
Arkansas. The Council’s budget is $4.5-4.75
million. In addition, it maintains 14 office and
camp facilities. Combined Council staffing is
projected to be 65+.
